In the Cameo System, a player playing as Nero in a city that Dante is also fighting in might see Dante fighting in the distance or possibly right up next to Nero. To Capcom, that means it makes sense that the characters would be fighting alongside each other rather than just taking turns hidden away. The way the system works is that the three characters - Dante, Nero, and V - are occasionally in the same place in the story. Capcom wasn't keen to answer those questions before, but has now revealed how players can play together in Devil May Cry 5 in what they're calling "The Cameo System." In this game, a silent Dante is called to the remote Island of Dumary to investigate a corporation that is attempting to harness demonic power. The last game in the series, chronologically, is Devil May Cry 2. Nero realises that the leaders of the cult aren’t very different from the demons he’s fighting, and it’s up to Dante to save Nero. Dante attacks the cult and soon after, demons attack the city. The events of Devil May Cry 4 happen after the first game where the focus of the story shifts to Nero, who is a member of a cult that worships Sparda, known as the “Order of the Sword”. He accepts, 'kicks ass', and seals Mundus away again, although he still doesn't succeed in killing Mundus. Arkham dies, Vergil falls into the depths of the demon world and Dante, at the suggestion of his sometimes-ally, the huntress Lady, names his demon-hunting business Devil May Cry.ĭevil May Cry takes place some time later, where Trish, a demon who resembles Dante’s mother, bursts into his shop, and invites him to Mallet Island to prevent a demon named Mundus from returning. It's Dante's job to go in and kick ass, which he does. Dante’s brother Vergil has joined up with a strange, bald wizard named Arkham, and has raised a demonic tower named the Temen-ni-Gru again in the hopes of gaining more power. Chronologically, the events of Devil May Cry 3 precede the events of the other games. The earlier games revolve around Dante, one of the sons of Sparda, the most powerful demon that ever existed. The level design seems to take advantage of this with platforming segments that require Dante to pull platforms to him or swing to another platform by using his sword. The sword seems to be extendable and flexible, like a whip. An interesting thing to note is Dante’s new weapon. However, in the reboot, the developer Ninja Theory seems to have given him a teenaged look with short black hair. He is usually seen with long white hair, and carries Rebellion, a sword that’s about as big as he is. The protagonist Dante looks a lot different from his previous incarnations. At some point in the future, if we can figure out a way to solve that then maybe but for this one you’re going it alone as Dante”. “ DmC is the sort of game where you want to hoard all the enemies to yourself in order to get your ranking up, so if you’re having to fight with the person that you’re theoretically co-operating with it would just create a skewed set of priorities. He continues, “We’re not doing co-op for reasons that are purely narrative like we wanted to tell the story of Dante and to have to account for another person on that journey would have an impact on the narrative”. Recently, the publishers Capcom, explained in an interview with IGN why the game won’t have co-operative gameplay, especially since the game seems ripe for it with the recent Gamescom trailer showing Dante’s brother, Vergil.Ĭapcom senior producer Alex Jones said, “ I’m not even going to tease you”.

Ninja Theory’s take on the Devil May Cry series titled DmC: Devil May Cry is shaping out to be quite interesting despite some of the changes the developers have made to the character’s appearance and personality.
